Alter Eco is a brand of the Ecotone group, which describes it as a pioneer of fair trade and organic chocolate and coffee in France.

Six bars: 70% Ecuador dark chocolate, 85% Peru dark chocolate, Almond dark chocolate, Orange dark chocolate, Milk chocolate and Salted Caramel milk chocolate.

70% Ecuador uses Ecuador's Arriba Nacional cocoa, known for its floral finesse and deep woody overtones. 85% Peru uses cocoa from the Peruvian Amazon and is slightly bitter with fruity notes. Almond pairs aromatic Peruvian cocoa with crunchy sweet almond pieces. Orange combines rich dark Peruvian chocolate with crisp candied orange peel for a bittersweet taste. Milk is made with full milk and melts in the mouth. Salted Caramel is milk chocolate studded with crisp caramel chips made with butter and sea salt.

Minimum cocoa content: 85% Peru 85%, 70% Ecuador 70%, Almond 60%, Orange 60%, Milk 34% and Salted Caramel 34%.

Yes. Every ingredient in the six ingredient lists is organic except water and sea salt, which are not agricultural ingredients. The dark chocolate pages state that 100% of the ingredients from agriculture come from organic farming.

Yes. In every bar the cocoa and sugar are Fairtrade certified, and so is the vanilla in the Almond and Orange bars. The share of Fairtrade ingredients is 100% for 70% Ecuador and 85% Peru, 89.8% for Orange, 88% for Almond, 76.8% for Milk and 74% for Salted Caramel, where Fairtrade sugar may be mixed with non-certified sugar on a mass balance basis. The 70% Ecuador, Milk and Salted Caramel bars are made with the Unocace cooperative in Ecuador, whose family farms of 5 to 10 hectares in the provinces of Los Rios and Guayas grow the Arriba Nacional variety, known locally as "black gold". The 85% Peru, Almond and Orange bars are made with the Acopagro cooperative in the Alto Huayabamba region of the Peruvian Amazon, which involves members of 70 local communities and runs its own fermentation centre.

The UK homepage describes the chocolate as carbon-neutral, and each product page states a 100% neutralised carbon footprint.

Milk is not an ingredient of the 70% Ecuador, 85% Peru, Almond or Orange bars, but each is labelled as possibly containing milk. The Milk and Salted Caramel bars contain milk.

The Almond bar contains almonds. The Milk and Salted Caramel bars contain milk, and Salted Caramel also contains butter and cream. The "may contain" warnings are milk, nuts, gluten and soya for 70% Ecuador, 85% Peru and Orange; milk, soya, gluten and other nuts for Almond; and nuts, gluten and soya for Milk and Salted Caramel.
